Are Those Who Cannot Speak English = Stupid?
This idea came across my mind yesterday, while talking to my mum and sister. My sister is trying to improve her english, and for that reason my mum wants everyone to converse in english at home.
Well I don't mind talking in english at all. But I was wondering if there is any reason why in most cases anak melayu who were born and bred in the UK can hardly speak malay, while the arabs mostly do not face a similar problem.
Talking about Amani and her statement, it was weird that somewhat this person gave out the statement. It shows the level of education of somewhat. An educated person will never make such statement. Only those of less education, have a very narrow view on things, and belief there is only one indication of one's intelligence, and that is by talking in English.
My point is, are those who can speak english really well clever? Well, if you have the opportunity to study abroad, you'll find that:
1) Cleaners speak english
2) Bus drivers speak english
3) Receptionists speak english
4) Cab drivers speak english
5) Beggars speak english
6) Homeless people speak english
7) Drug addicts speak english
8) Prostitutes speak english.. very well
With no disrespect for many of these people, are we still saying that those who speak english well, are really brilliant and have been brought up really well? There are thousands of Japanese, German, Russian, Chinese, French professors, who cannot speak english. Or cannot speak english as good as Amani. Yet, do you (Amani) claim that you are better than them? Just go to the United Nations meeting, and see for yourself that many hands will be going over the language buttons for the translation services. And they are the representatives of many great nations.
To Cik Amani, I think it is good for you to travel abroad, not only to appreciate the building, but to see the community as well. Then you'd understand that english is not an indication of one's prowess.
What a stupid statement.. well, suits a not-so-educated actress who has to live on her look, rather than her brain. Maybe this kind of joke will start to appear to on the internet fairly soon..
3 Malaysian celebrities found a magic mirror, which can tell truth from lies. One will dissappear if one tells lie in front of it.
Mawi, the first one, stood up. He said " I think I have the loveliest voice in Malaysia" and in a few seconds he dissappeared.
Fazura then stood up. She said " I think I am the best actress in Malaysia" and soon she dissappeared too.
Amani stood up and said " I think.." and she immediately dissappeared
p/s: well, some people really cannot think

in my humble opinion... the command of the english language is best perfected via reading. tang bila dah baca byk2 and otak dah biasa pikir in the language, am pretty sure that the verbal part would come almost naturally... and really, the more one reads, the broader their views... bak kata margaret fuller... "today a reader, tomorrow a leader".
the root of the problem nowadays mostly comes from the fact that people just do not have the internal strength to decipher as to what actually makes a human being of quality, and they ultimately resort a lot to external factors to identify themselves. then again, i am an antediluvian, curmudgeon, and a non-fatalist to boot. wallahu'alam.
people can learn, but speaking is another different skill. some people can memorise all sorts of language yet still have problem to speak the language. people who have speaking skills can speak any language he knows.
so.. for some people speaking is much more harder.. n need a lot of training..
btol2..even kangaroo oso sometimes speak english as well
normal situation, a group of white people came to a kangaroo park;
white people: there are the kngaroos.. lets take pics etc...
around february (budak baru dtg), asina came to the park..
kangaroo: asian2... lets take pics with them...
lawak2 sengal bile p wildlife park... haha
ps: ini sekadar lawak je...
even though English is not my favourite language to learn compare other languanges that i had been learnt..but i also want to improve my english, thats why i always read this blog and took it as one of the ways to improve my BI..and i hope some peoples who can speak English clearly not think they are clever:).[refer to peoples like amani]
speaking english... coralie english? johnny english? they should be the most intelligent people on earth then...
pada aku, any language is just a medium of communication. english, arabic, japanese, malay, jawa etc.
If language is being taken as an indicator of intelligence, i guess the person who made such comments is totally ....ntahlaa, tatau nak cakap apa...vocab tak cukup..huhu
Bcakap tak smestinye pandai
Diam tak smestinye bodoh
BTW, oit, tukaq mawi tu ngan IMPRESSION...hoho
mawi? impression...
siti N pon xreti ckp english per... kaye gk..hoho
talking of which, language is just a way to communicate. recently, i attended a group interview session, and among the crowd was a girl who just recently came back from the UK.
she speaks english with the accent.. i think it is because she did her master in a region where the accent is really pekat.
the problem was, whenever she spoke, not many people could understand, including the interviewer. haha, here, the point of speaking english is simply pointless. apa guna cakap omputih, kalau orang pun tak faham..
wlm
Pemerhati Perajurit II
sbb xramai org ckp english kat mesia kot... n boleh jadik pemandu pelancong :p
Wether you can speak English or not, it doesn't really matter. To how I see, it's actually who you are. Being smart can be in many ways, not only intellectual thinking but smart in terms of manners too.
For obvious reasons, those who think shallow are just not wise people. :D
smlm rakaman tv3 kat sini
