the tour of clifton

today i went out with dr crossley-evans and many more first-years for this guided tour of clifton. well, needless to say, clifton is one of the places in the UK where the cost of living is quite high.
being the Las Vegas of the UK in the 18th century, we travelled past times, when clifton was prospered with blood-stained money. white-slave-trade, armaments, cannon, and many other business were the main source of income of this city. there were few making-money-out-of-people-misery families such as Goldney (hence Goldney Hall), who had been a major benefactor to the city. there was also the Wills family who built the Wills memorial building and donated it to the bristol university.
going to clifton, one can see a very high-class standard of living of people of the past. however, there were few areas whose names are related to prostitution and other illegal or dirty business which is the side-effect when development pursued was not the heavenly-guided one.
well, clifton is a little place worth touring. with history dating back to the time of the romans, it guarantees an exciting travel through time covering almost 1600 years worth of history.
